Can I use an unlocked cell phone with Verizon Wireless?

I currently have Verizon Wireless as my cell phone provider. I’m not due for a phone upgrade for another year, but my current phone is busted. I wanted to get an unlocked cell phone (they seem less expensive) and wondered if any of them will work with Verizon.

Unlocked blackberry?

Ok I’ve been reading a lot on the internet lately about unlocking phones and how cool and cheap it is in the long run. I was wondering I have a blackberry 7290, which my mom got off ebay, yet I was able to put in my sim card (which was originally in a T-Mobile phone) and it worked fine! What does this mean? Is my blackberry unlocked or is it just with T-Mobile like my old phone? If thats the case what will happen if I unlock it? What do I need to do to unlock it?

I’ve been looking online while this question is being answered and I’ve figured out that it is locked. Now that I think about it I couldn’t use it in Costa Rica when I went last year, I forgot about that. The Blackberry is orinaly from Marocco. (or that was the time it was set to when I opened the package) so I thought it might be, and with the ease of the sim card I though it was garenteed. I think I’ll still look into it being unlocked, however I have another question what happens when its unlocked? I bet this sounds stupid… Who do you pay for minutes, text, internet all that jazz?
